Weiland Marine Hosts Angler Young Angler Fishing Tournament

For the second year Weiland Marine hosted the Angler Young Angler (AYA) program’s walleye fishing tournament. An early morning storm delayed start of the June 11th tournament with high winds and lightning. Finally at 9 a.m. teams consisting of one adult angler and two youth anglers departed from the State Park to catch a combined highest weight to win the event. Weigh-in was moved up to 2 p.m. due to an arriving afternoon storm. Lunch was served to participants and prizes were awarded, made possible by donations from event sponsors. For a complete list of sponsors please visit All youth anglers were awarded a rod and reel and fishing tackle and the winning team took home a brand new Lund A-12 boat, a 5 HP Mercury engine and a Shorland’r trailer.

The main objective of the AYA fishing program is to introduce and educate young anglers to sport fishing in a fun way, experienced with family and friends, and creating memories to last a lifetime. Each year Weiland Marine relies on sponsors and volunteers to make the program possible. “Thank You to all the Sponsors and Volunteers that made the Angler Young Angler Fishing tournament a great success,” Dave Gilbertson said. “The day started out with some shaky weather but after a short delay we got the teams on the water. The smiles we get to see and the fun the anglers have, it will be memories for all that will last a life time. Thanks to all participants, sponsors, and volunteers!!”

Next year’s event will be held on June 10th.
